"Cotton Kills"

These hikers learned a valuable lesson about the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. If you don't like the weather, stick around it'll change. I cannot fathom what made them think they could hike the AT this time of year without the proper gear. Any backpacker that has been out more than once will tell that cotton is a big no-no. Cotton will not hold in body heat, especially if it gets wet. With proper gear, this would have been a fun trip. Instead, they almost died from hypothermia.

On a side note, when will the Department of Interior allow cell towers in the national park? If it weren't for blind luck, these men would have died. However, a cell phone would have lessened that likelihood. Oh well, next time maybe.
